ScEEN in Kerry Christmas Party

ScEEN in Kerry Christmas Party

The ScEEN in Kerry Christmas party commenced on November 23rd 2019 in the Ashe Hotel, Tralee, Co. Kerry. As people arrived we had a stand for them to give their contact details and email addresses so they can sign up for our newsletters and be informed on upcoming events. We had the talented Owen Rua opening the night with some lively music and had people dancing and singing a long. We then had DJ Ricky Clifford play the party anthems till the end of the night. A wonderful atmosphere as we welcomed new members to our group and introduced everyone to each other.

There was a diverse crowd of people ranging from young to old, lesbian, gay, trans and everything in between. The Kerryman and Kerry’s eye arrived and did a write up about the event for their newspapers. A great night to make the LGBT+ community in Kerry feel seen, heard and welcome!

ScEEN in Kerry held its first ever social event

ScEEN in Kerry held its first ever social event

When ScEEN in Kerry first set out to organise a social event we wondered who will turn out? Is there an audience for this kind of thing in county Kerry?  We left these questions aside and decided to just go for it, as the old adage goes ‘Build it and they will come’. That is at least what we were hoping for. It turns out word of mouth and a bit of plugging on our social media platforms brought the audience we hoped for. A diverse group of people from the LGBT+ community and their allies created a wonderful atmosphere.

We organised a fun, poptastic event in the Ashe Hotel, Friday 11th October, Tralee. Local musician Owen Rua belted out some impressive corkers and DJ Ricky Clifford played classic pop anthems throughout the night. Fundraising proceeds were also organised, with all donations going towards the Kerry Festival of Pride.

Our main mission is to bring the LGBT+ people living in Kerry together. We witnessed a few snogs, a few curious peeps attended and friends came together. We think it’s important to create spaces where where people can go and be themselves in an unfiltered situation without judgment. We hope to arrange regular social gatherings in the near future.

Watch this space…
